Lambis crocata, Strombidae

Present in the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean up to about 50 m of depth, the Lambis crocata is a gastropod with showy shell at 7 digitations that may reach the 24 cm. Unlike most of the gastropods that advance crawling on the foot, this big and showy mollusc utilizes the solid pointed operculum, in the shape of a sickle, to go ahead with a hopping locomotion typical of the Strombidae family. It nourishes of algae and occasional debris © Giuseppe Mazza
