Conus litteratus

Family : Conidae

Conus litteratus, Conidae

The Conus litteratus, very common in the tropical Indo-Pacific from East Africa to Polynesia, lives usually in shallow waters but may go down up to 50 m of depth. It moves on the sandy bottoms hunting polychaetes and its venom, absolutely particular, is studied for the production of neurological drugs. The shell, often decorated by slight orange bands, has a spiral of dark dashes, longer close to the apex, and may reach the 17 cm © Giuseppe Mazza
