Native to China, Japan, Korea, and the southeast of Siberia where it grows on the coast, often on sand dunes.

5 fragrant petals, mauve or red. Also 2,5 m high. Features wrinkled leaves. Decorative fruits.

Resistant to disease. Tolerates shade.
