Anolis equestris, knight anole, Cuban knight anole, Cuban giant anole, Dactyloidae

Introduced in Florida and Hawaii, the Anolis equestris is the biggest membre of the Dactyloidae family with about a length of half a metre. Diurnal and arboreal, able to do 50 cm leaps, has pointed snout and big mouth with small sharp teeth that swallows everything found: mainly insects, artropods and snails but also small vertebrates and juicy fruits. Can change colour from emerald green to black, keeping unchanged the yellowish bands on head and shoulder. Fiercely territorial, in some sites it may aver invasive at the expense of local species © Giuseppe Mazza
